What to prepare for auditions?

UNDERGRADUATE: Prepare all major and melodic minor scales (two octaves where possible); two contrasting etudes: e.g. Rochut, Blazhevich or Tyrrell; and a solo piece: e.g. Concertino by David, Morceau Symphonique by Guilmant, Andante and Allegro by Barat or a movement from concertos by Grondahl or Jacob. Other solos and etudes are acceptable if they are of a similar level of difficulty. If unsure, feel free to contact Professor Ordman for guidance. You will also be asked to sight read. Auditions last approximately 15 minutes.

MASTERS: Prepare several solos of contrasting styles, including at least one standard concerto, and a variety of orchestral excerpts. You may also be asked scales (major and melodic minor) and sight reading. Auditions last approximately 20 minutes.

DOCTORAL: Candidates should prepare this audition as if presenting a recital/lecture:  several contrasting solos, a standard concerto, and orchestral excerpts. Auditions last 30-40 minutes.

If you have any questions or concerns about repertoire, please contact Professor Ordman directly.
